Colors And Associations in Diagrams
The statistical source for the following diagrams was a survey carried out and published by Eva Heller (Eva Heller, Wie Farben wirken). Among german experts, this book is regarded as the most comprehensive work about color symbolism or color associations:
Note: When interpreting these diagrams, we have to pay attention to the subordinate colors (so-called interactive colors) instead of only focusing on the dominant colors. Red, e.g. stands for love, but it also represents hate. It's the interactive color that makes the difference: the color red that represents love is accompanied by pink; the color red that stands for hate is accompanied by black.
The interactive colors determine the effects of the dominant colors!
The people who were questioned also named various colors that made up only a small percentage. These minimal values are not indicated separately in the bar charts, but they have been apportioned to the main values. Thus, a standardized and graphic presentation could be achieved. And since these conversions have been carried out with all colors, the proportions of the areas to each other are correct and allow correct comparison.
By clicking on one of the terms in the charts, you will open an assessment page. On this page you will find one or several suggestions as how to create a harmonic color combination with the associated colors according to the rules of harmony theory, but without affecting or altering the association.
